Evolution of the desktop

Changing Desktop Landscape

We can all agree that end-user computing as we’ve known it is never going to be the same. Static desktops are becoming less and less common as focus is shifting to support multiple desktops across different operating systems. Through better manageability and transparency it’s cloud that’s driving this shift and it is multi-cloud that’s the future of how these resources will be managed. We need to look no further than Citrix’s innovation with Citrix Cloud and Microsoft’s significant push with Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD).

That being said, applications should be able to be consumed in a safe way on those desktops, and those apps should be delivered with guaranteed security, reliability, and performance. At nuApp we are working hard to make that happen. First presented this year at Citrix Synergy, our Apps2Digital cloud service in union with Citrix Cloud, makes it possible for any type of device (VDI included) to use virtual applications whether packaged or in SaaS format.

Assisting digital transformation

Over the last two years, we’ve been designing Apps2Digital with the goal of helping our channel partners deliver successful digital transformation projects with their customers. But we’re not looking to lower investments in transformation to digital workspaces per se, it is more to reduce the effort required and create a structure to the process of application digitalization. Applications need to be provisioned in an automatic, reproducible way. A way that allows for the replication of the application’s deployment, together or separate, from other packaged apps in order to be deployed within multiple clouds or on-premise. In addition, scalability will be needed for companies’ ever-changing environments, as well as the elasticity and flexibility of multi-cloud, which I think we can all agree, is part of the future.

Hybrid cloud is the future

Multi-cloud and on-premises availability (hybrid) are needs that we identified several years ago when we began creating Apps2Digital. With its implementation, our clients and our service partners will be able to take advantage of all their applications on any type of desktop or endpoint device. All in a secure and rapid manner, freed from the shackles of the traditional application packaging tools, which are cumbersome and inefficient, amongst other deficiencies.

In Apps2Digital we’ve included application lifecycle management and multi-cloud compatibility (Citrix Cloud) to ensure the success of digital workspace transformation. Even more important however, is that we’ve created a user-driven cloud service. Being user-driven ensures that not only does transformation take place, but that it is far easier to manage and maintain than traditional methods.

The power comes from the user being able to autonomously access these apps, whether it be because their needs have changed due to a promotion, or simply a new employee joins the team. Workers can visit the Apps2Store plug-in via their existing Citrix StoreFront, and either a workplace approval system will be set off or they may be granted access immediately. Multiple tickets are no longer needed when structural changes in the workplace occur – now the business units themselves will be taking charge of their applications for today and the future.

Being prepared to succeed

In the end, what we’d like to achieve for our clients is for their digital transformations to be simpler and more secure. With Apps2Digital they will be able to know beforehand the effort and resources that the transformation will require, creating confidence from the start of the project. Thanks to our Apps Catalog of existing A2D Formulas and channel partner’s expertise, clients can feel confident that their applications will be virtualized properly and in a timely manner. The capabilities that our channel partners and Apps2Digital deliver ensure that, with the same investment, digital transformation and lifecycle management are sustainable, secure, and with multi-cloud, prepared for the new business challenges.
